Why Internet Cafés Haven't Caught On

I have often considered the prospect of opening up an internet café. But investors are skittish about the idea. It's not marketable. People come in and perhaps purchase a $20 yearly access to the high-speed connection and sit without spending another dime. Let's build upon that.

First, lets scrap the old library booths and replace them with intimate booths and tables like you would typically find in a nice restaurant. And then we can have sectioned off private areas for study groups to sit and relax undisturbed. Be sure to include power access at each table with enough sockets for at least four to plug in. An outside shaded seating area in the style of a french café could be perfect for those who like to browse the web in fresh air.

Next, we have servers. No, not internet servers. It's a café, remember? Real live servers that can bring you coffee, drinks and small snack dishes made fresh behind a counter. Your internet access provides you the capability to order from the menu straight from your computer. Because we all get the munchies while after a few hours of surfing. And soft music not obtrusively loud but comfort to add to the atmosphere.

As we mentioned, we also like to meet new people. When we sit down and log in we can choose to connect to the café's social media page that you could post your Hello to everyone in the café. If we are shy we can choose to log in anonymously and only poke someone we see interesting to start a friendly private online chat. But please respect our "Do Not Disturb: Working" status if its shown.

Take a break and feel free to browse our magazine rack along the back wall and sit in cozy love seats while you read. If you want to finish the magazine at home you can purchase it at the counter or simply put it back on the shelf and finish it tomorrow. If you are a night owl or work at night and sleep during the day you now have a place to hang out that fits your schedule. Your internet café is open 24 hours!

With many cities cracking down on nightclubs and restrictive laws on smoking in public places, the options for potential places to simply hang out and socialize are growing fewer and far between. With the right atmosphere and planning, the internet café could step in to become our new after work watering hole!
